January 07 Notes on writing papersAfter listening prof. Chen's report, I got some notes on writing papers:
(1) Don't use too long sentences. Your should divide a long sentence into shorter ones.
(2) Use a leading sentence to generalize the main meanings for each paragraph.
(3) Become the reader of your own paper first, i.e. you should convince yourself first.
(4) Zero hypothesis. Assume that your reader has minimum prior knowledge.
(5) Write your paper with passion.
(6) Identify your contribution as soon as you have introduced your proposed approach, probably in the introduction section.
(7) Make your paper more compelling, which needs more active-voice sentences (>70%).
(8) Don't just copy from some great papers when you introduce to state-of-the-art research.
(9) IEEE transactions/journals publish original papers, while IEEE magazines publish survay and overview papers.
(0) Acceptance rate of IEEE is about 30%.
>>note: prof. Chang Wen Chen is from Florida Institute of Technology, the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Trans. Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.
